Our Beauty Accessibility Journey
At Head & Shoulders we aim to provide an inclusive experience for everyone, regardless of their ability. We strive to identify and remove barriers that may interfere with the ability to use our products, services and communications. We want to give everyone a delightful experience.
How do we make our communications content accessible?
Enabling every consumer to learn about our brands and products is a priority. We strive to identify and remove barriers from our communications - from our websites & digital media to our advertisements on television.
So how do we do this?
Many disabled people, and others, use assistive technology such as head tracking, adaptive controllers, screen readers and captions. We want to ensure they have an enjoyable experience. For example, our digital testing process involves automatic and manual accessibility conformance testing in line with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), aiding accessibility regardless of assistive technology or ability.
In addition to website accessibility, Head & Shoulders has been engaging with television broadcasters to encourage development of audio description (AD) and closed caption (CC) features.
Audio description and closed captions can be activated on certain broadcasters
Open captions and/or on-screen text are also used to make our adverts more accessible
Where audio description is not yet available, we strive to have advertising that provides the key information verbally so that blind and visually impaired consumers can still enjoy our adverts and learn about our brand and products.
We are always looking to improve our communications. We are testing new accessibility features on other digital media platforms (e.g. YouTube, Instagram & Facebook) to enable audio description, alternative text and captions where possible.
Making our Products more Delightful for Everyone
Your daily shower should be a moment of refreshing confidence. But if you're blind or visually impaired, even choosing your shampoo can be a challenge. Head & Shoulders believes everyone deserves that shower confidence. That's why, beyond our distinct bottle shapes, we've added a tactile marker to selected products. Now, just a touch lets you confidently choose your trusted Head & Shoulders shampoo and not your favourite body wash, ensuring a moment of clarity, every time.
In 2023, we introduced tactile markers on Head & Shoulders shampoo bottles. Four raised lines are moulded into our bottles to indicate shampoo. We have since expanded these markers to our 330ml, 625ml and 800ml bottles.
This tactile symbol is a part of P&G’s Universal tactile System which is on various product types globally.
