Wondering how you can build a hair routine that guarantees great hair? Use our tips as a starting point.

Great hair doesn’t have to be difficult – all it needs is some consideration and common sense. To make things easier, however, we’ve put together some hair beauty tips for your daily routine.

Don’t neglect your wash

One of the most important parts of your hair routine starts in the shower.

Washing your hair does more than you might think:

  • It strips away excess oils and build-up that can leave it greasy
  • In dry hair it can be a way to moisturize your locks
  • It cleans the skin of your scalp

Done properly, it also smooths out your hair’s cuticles (the outer covering of the hair), leading to a smoother look.

All this means is that you need to make sure you're washing your hair often enough and you’re using the right shampoo and conditioner combo.

Unless you have very dry and fragile hair, you should be washing your hair every two to three days at a minimum, to avoid build-up of oils that can lead to greasy hair.

Likewise, you’ll want to condition your hair right down to the roots, to help smooth and soften the strands, as well as moisturize them.

Out of the shower

Once you’re out of the shower, the next big hurdle you’ll face is drying your hair – yes, this is important too.

Your hair, when wet, is at its most vulnerable.

Drying too roughly can cause hair strands to stretch and break, leading to irreversible damage.

The obvious path, then, is to go gently: pat, don’t rub. For even better results, an old t-shirt is a surprisingly effective way of drying hair gently, as its flat weave provides lower friction than an ordinary towel.

You’ll also want to avoid heat while your hair is wet. This is a sure-fire way to cause damage.

If you do want to blow dry your hair, keep things cool. Don’t pick up a straightening iron or other hot tools until your hair is completely dry and be sure to use a heat protection product.

Your scalp

You might not realize it, but a large part of your hair’s condition comes directly from your scalp.

This makes sense when you think about it: when it leaves the scalp, your hair fiber is already ‘dead’ – that means your best chance to improve your hair comes while it is still growing within the scalp.

Luckily, your scalp is easy to take care of:

  • Make sure you have dealt with any underlying scalp conditions first
  • Avoid excessive heat (which you should be doing anyway)
  • Use a shampoo and conditioner that not only cares for your hair, but your scalp as well

You’ll be astonished by the results if you add these tips on hair and scalp routines to your regimen.
